Mid Stream

Another shot from the book in the still air, which is available for purchase now. This was taken early in July of 2007 on a day with two new models that I had met from Frederick, MD. Sister Dee was totally uninhibitied and just swam out mid-stream and just gave me that peaceful, serene look that really just nailed this shot.

in the still air

back in the spring of 2007 i started to follow a lot of figure photographers who were doing really wonderful work photographing nudes in landscapes and i knew this was something that i wanted to do.  i knew it would  be the next step in my growth as a figure photographer.  without much of an idea what i was doing or how to find the best locations, i set out to do the best i could and create images with meaning and artistic merit.

when the summer was over and i looked at the collection of images, i was really pleased with the collection and set out to design a book of the collected works and called it in the still air.  when i originally printed the book, i used a printer that was prohibitively expensive and had limited means to distribute it.  but i still  loved those images and wanted to find a way to share the work with a wider audience.

so, i recently redesigned the book, starting from scratch, remastering some of the photos and adding new ones to the mix.  the book is now available through blurb.com in a variety of formats.   you can purchase the book in an ebook format for your iPad or iPhone, a standard 8×10 inch photo book, and an 11×13 inch edition printed on a premium uncoated matte finish paper that’s just beautiful.

over the next week or so, i will be posting images from this series on my blog here and other social networking sites that i use.  i’ll start with this one of trinette that was shot very early in the series and helps to define a direction and mood for the body of work.

with/without

an experiment in undressing the model.  the idea for this came spontaneously just after Floofie hit the clothed pose.  i asked her to remove the jacket and replicate the pose.  certainly a common theme with nude photos, but one which i couldn’t resist interpreting myself.

That Look

Jillian and I hang out all the time. i see her at least once a week and we’ve talked about shooting so often, it’s not even funny any more.

So we set up a date to shoot and the night before I mixed a little bit too much Wild Turkey in with the night and it left me with a debilitating hangover.

We set up another date to shoot and Jillian (unapologetically) showed up with a nasty hangover, got a little sick, and took a nap at my place. And again, we didn’t shoot.

The following weekend, I casually said, “you want to stop by and try this again?” And the night before I text-ed her, “Behave yourself!”

And then we go this. Worth the wait, I’d say.

FIGURE STUDIES ON GLASS PLATES

Scott Nichol shows 5 monochrome figure studies at the LaDuca Gallery in Easton, PA starting on November 5, 2011. Artists’ reception will be at 7:00 on November 13. The exhibition is part of the InVision photography festival being presented by ArtsQuest.org and the exhibit will also include the works of photographers Adam Atkinson, Johanna Andresen, and Gene Palmiter.

Always one to push the boundaries of photographic presentation, Scott brings a new innovative approach to digital printmaking. The five monochrome figure studies being shown at the LaDuca gallery in Easton, PA are printed directly onto glass plates. These prints have a luminosity and depth not normally seen in digital printing.
